October 1st September - London - Bangkok - Sydney - LakelandsOvercast.Caught the Heathrow Express with two minutes to spare and enjoyed the silent swift 15 minute train trip to the airport. Arrived early to a crowded terminal, but checked in OK after a slight delay when Steve%u2019s passport kept getting rejected. Enjoyed the hospitality of the excellent but small British Airways business class lounge until boarding. The QANTAS flight to Bangkok (not Singapore as we had thought) went by quite quickly, thanks in part to Teia sleeping for a straight eight hours of the 12 hour flight, and the excellent entertainment system on board. The food was very good as well. Thailand had just had a military coup, and the new airport had only been open two days. We were warned by the Captain that the terminal was chaotic - he was right. It was bedlam - no air conditioning, very few signs installed, flight lounges being built. We ran into a QANTAS official who said that the airport should not have been opened for at least another three months. Boarded on time, but then had to wait close to an hour for all the passengers to be rounded up - many who got lost.
