Covering some 647 square kilometres, Picos de Europa is Spain%u2019s second largest national park and spans across the three provinces of Asturias, Cantabria and Leon. There are no park fees or permits required. The Pico de Europa (Pro: Picos de Oo-ropa) park is not what many people picture as Spain %u2013 it%u2019s an alpine landscape, high, cool, lush and green, with forests, deep gorges through the cliffs, and grassland dotted with photogenic toffee-coloured cows.We drove through the Desfiladero de La Hermida, a spectacular river gorge with deep slopes of limestone sparsely covered with oak trees. The narrow winding road was undergoing a major improvement, so lots of road works slowing traffic. Not such a bad thing as it allowed us to enjoy the jaw-dropping scenery.Day 23 - Tuesday 30/9/2025 - Bilbao to Li%u00e9rganes (Pro: Le-era-gar-nes) to Santillana del Mar (Pro: San-tee-yana de mar) to Potes (Pro: Poor-tez) (3hr 5min) (2 nights) 18%u00b0 (Continued)Potes (Pro: Poor-tez) (Pop. 1,400)
