To get there we first had to drive back through the Desfiladero de La Hermida, turn off on the AS-114 as it passes through Arenas de Cabrales and travel 6 kms south to nearby Poncebos.Day 25 - Thursday 02/10/2025 - Potes to Picos de Europa National Park to Poncebos (Pro: Pon-seh-BOHS) to Bulnes (Pro: BOOL-ness) to Sotres (Pro: Sow-tre) to Poncebos (1hr 51min) (1 night) 16%u00b0PoncebosWe left Potes in the dark early this morning as we had a 1 hour and 30 minutes drive to get to Bulnes Funicular near Poncebos. We wanted to make sure we arrived early as the car park there is very small and Steve was worried about getting a park. We were supposed to be going tomorrow as we were staying the night right next to it. But we mixed up our dates when booking and they would not let us change it. The tiny village of Poncebos, 57km (1hr 11min) from Potes, is one of the best places in the Picos de Europa to base for hikers. The village is a gateway to explore the vast and scenic hiking paths and mountain hamlets of the park and consists of only three accommodation options, each with a full-service restaurant with a bar to replenish and refuel tired hikers. There is also the famous hydroelectric power station and limited parking places for the Cares Gorge hiking trail.
