Day 28 - Sunday 05/10/2025 - Cudillero to Oviedo (Pro: O-vee-ay-dow) (47min) (2 nights) 14%u00b0Luarca (Pro: Loo-ARR-ca) (28 min from Cudillero) Larger than Cudillero, this is another Asturian fishing village and port town. A very picturesque harbour nestled in the hills. A must for seafood lovers.Oviedo (Pop 225,000) This large handsome modern city has its own unique personality, quaint pre-Romanesque churches, elegant streetscapes, fine monuments and grand houses. And a pretty park Campo de San Francisco that we had to drive five times around while we waited for our host to finish his late lunch. We finally met our host at the parking garage and walk around the corner to his apartment, our home for the next two nights. Our new apartment Balc%u00f3n del Rosal, Calle Rosal N%u00b01, is in a modern extension to an historic building in the centre of town. The centre is pedestrian only but parking was very close by. While Louise rested Steve did a reconoitre of the area. All the sight are in quite a compact zone, so easy to find. Quite an elegant town with a nice park. We spent the morning in Cudillaro before walking our bags down the steep hill to the car. We were glad we won't have to walk that extremely steep path again. We drove west to another little fishing village called Luarca. It was a lot bigger than Cudillaro, but again, lots of character. With a lovely harbour. The fishing villages in this area remind us of similar ones in Cornwall. 'Chocolate box' houses scattered higgledy-piggledy in a narrow cleft of rock with a tiny protected harbour. We walked around the center of the village and stopped in the centre of town for a rather dodgy Spanish hot chocolate and churros. Served by a barman/waiter that just grunted. The very thick hot chocolate was served with this small cold hard donut shape thing. We both look at each other thinking surely this is not the churros. A few minutes later a plate of hot churros came out, much better. We had just about finished and then a second plate of hot churros arrived. One would have been plenty. We drove around the winding streets of the harbour and the lookouts high above and eventually scored a lucky park right on the wharf. We wandered about there for a bit and had a nice relaxing coffee with free tapas on the waterfront at bar El Faro, P.%u00ba del Muelle, 26The weatherwas mixed today. Overcast with some sun. Still quite warm for Autumn. So very pleasant for sightseeing.Reluctantly we left for our drive to our next two nights destination, Oviedo. Just over an hour away. Rather than backtrack along the same freeway we took the B road inland through lots of rolling hills and road tunnels.
